چکیده

One of the most concerned components in world’s food system challenges is waste, and it particularly a critical issue developed countries. Waste cooking oil (WCO) one liquid wastes that are recyclable. A proper recycling practice WCO helps to reduce adverse impact on environment can be reused by converting into industrial products such as biodiesel soap. With rising cost crude global market depletion conventional fuel, world also need alternative fuel fulfil energy demands. This paper studies potential source biofuel transesterification process. The acid value determined using standard titration method, which, if percentage FFA more than 2%, which needs undergo pre-treatment Sodium hydroxide used catalyst methanol reacting alcohol transesterification. characteristics produced were tested compared with specification biodiesel; ASTM D6751 EN 14214. From experiment conducted, 90% yield obtained from waste oil. properties undergoes washing process, value, density, kinematic viscosity, cloud pour points have values typically close 14214 standards, seen Sample 1. Producing alternatives disposing these gives beneficial impacts environment. Since biodegradable, economical, environmental friendly always available, economic feasibility production viable.

A Two-step Catalytic Production of Biodiesel from Waste Cooking Oil

Waste cooking oil (WCO) was used as a potential feedstock for biodiesel production. High levels of free fatty acids (9.85% w/w) in WCO made it an undesirable substrate for direct transesterification reaction. To solve this issue, a two-step process was implemented in this research. Firstly, esterification reaction was performed in presence of sulfuric acid as a common acid catalyst to reduce th...

Waste Cooking Oil as an Alternate Feedstock for Biodiesel Production

As crude oil price reach a new high, the need for developing alternate fuels has become acute. Alternate fuels should be economically attractive in order to compete with currently used fossil fuels. In this work, biodiesel (ethyl ester) was prepared from waste cooking oil collected from a local restaurant in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Ethyl alcohol with sodium hydroxide as a catalyst was use...
